Do you have dental insurance? If so, fantastic! It offers an excellent way to make your dental care much more affordable, and at Tallahassee Dental Specialists, we go out of our way to maximize our patients’ benefits so they can save as much as possible on their needed services. Of course, many people have questions when it comes to their insurance, particularly about what is the best way to use their plan. We’re happy to answer them, and you’ll find plenty of helpful information in our brief insurance guide below. If you have any other questions about how we can use your particular policy, feel free to give us a call anytime.
One of the most important things to understand about dental insurance is that it does not work exactly like health insurance. With health insurance, what happens most of the time is that people experience a serious problem (heart attack, car wreck, etc.), and then they can rely on their plan to cover whatever treatments they need.
With dental insurance, however, this approach isn’t as effective. Instead, most plans are focused on prevention, making it easier for patients to afford basic services so that big problems can be taken care of before they ever develop.
What Your Dental Insurance Plan Covers
No two dental insurance plans are exactly alike, but most tend to offer coverage that looks similar to this:
Preventive care is covered 80-100% (this includes checkups, cleanings, fluoride treatments, and X-rays).
Basic restorative care is covered 50-70% (restorative bonding and fillings).
Advanced restorative care is covered 50% (crowns, bridges, dentures, extractions, root canal therapy).
Most of the time, cosmetic services like teeth whitening and porcelain veneers are NOT covered.
As you can see, primarily using your plan to cover routine treatments like checkups and cleanings is the best way to save as much as possible when you go to the dentist! Even better, regularly getting these services will also lower your chances of needing more extensive treatments that receive less coverage.
We Offer In-Network Savings & Welcome Out-of-Network Providers
As an in-network provider with a few insurance plans, we’re able to offer our patients the most savings possible, but people with out-of-network plans are more than welcome here, too! Unlike with health insurance, visiting an out-of-network dentist doesn’t always mean you’ll end up paying a lot more for your care. No matter your insurance provider, be sure to give us a call, and you’ll probably be pleasantly surprised by the discounts we can offer you!
